Revere High School Students Help Beautify Revere!
High school students from Revere High’s Culture Club have sponsored one of the RBC’s islands in the Adopt-an-Island Program. Students gathered together in May to plant flowers in their sponsored island (located at North Shore Road and Beach Street). Many thanks to these young citizens, who remind us that everyone can take part in keeping our city clean and beautiful!
Keeping Revere Clean
The Revere Beautification Committee is working hard to help keep Revere clean and to make it a better place in which to live and work. We would like to remind dog owners of the city ordinance requiring that all dog waste be removed from public and private properties. Waste needs to be picked up and disposed of properly in order to avoid fines which can be issued by the City. Pictured at left is Rosalind Bossi of Park Avenue and her dog Angel. We thank her for doing her part to keep the city clean.
City of Revere Trash Regulations
The City will issue tickets and fines for violations of the State Sanitary Code and the City Health Code. This includes violations of the trash ordinances. Fines range from $25 to $250 per offense and each day that a violation exists is considered a separate offense. Unpaid fines will be enforced by a means of a lien on real property. Violations of the City’s trash laws include:
1. Trash placed outside before 5 PM on the day preceding collection (on holiday weeks, fines will be issued if trash is placed out before 5 PM of the day preceding the actual collection day)
2. Dumpsters or barrels overflowing
3. Accumulation of garbage or litter on property
4. Commercial trash placed curbside for residential collection
5. Construction, demolition debris, etc. prohibited from curbside collection
Help keep Revere clean! Put trash in its designated spot! For more information, visit www.revere.org
City of Revere Yard Sale Regulations
For your general information, a person (or family or address) is limited to three yard sales/year. A permit, which is free, must be obtained at the Inspectional Services Dept in the American Legion Bldg for each yard sale. No signs announcing the yard sale can be attached to any public property or utility pole. All signs must be removed immediately after the sale. A fine will be assessed if the above criteria are not met.
For more information, go to www.revere.org/ or contact City Hall at 781-286-8100.
DON’T BE CRUEL — TO THE BIRDS!!!
How many times do we see well-intentioned people feeding left over food to the birds??? These individuals think that they are being kind to these creatures by feeding them bread or popcorn or French fries from Kelly’s or some other place.
But they are not. According to the Humane Society of the US (HSUS), feeding people food to the birds is not good for the birds. In fact, it is a practice that does more harm than good to the birds.
“While coaxing a wild animal into close proximity with tidbits from your picnic or barbecue may seem harmless enough, the long-term consequences of those actions are often disastrous – for both animals and people.” states the HSUS on its web site. According to HSUS,
- Human food is rarely nutritionally adequate for animals and may cause serious health problems.
- Animals who become dependent on human food sources may gather in abnormally large numbers, thereby aiding the spread of disease.
- When animals learn that humans provide a cheap and easy food source, the result may be conflicts, nuisance behavior and risks to both humans and animals.
Does this mean that you shouldn’t feed the birds in your backyard? No, but during the warmer months, when natural food is readily available, it is suggested that you either reduce the amount of feed that you put out each day or suspend feeding altogether.
The RBC, the DCR, and the City of Revere urge everyone to be kind to the birds by not feeding them!!
